What usually goes wrong
- Not cooling or heating. Dirty filters, a blocked outdoor coil, the wrong mode, or low refrigerant from a leak.
- Water dripping from the indoor unit. A blocked condensate drain or a cracked tray.
- A smell. Mould in the filters or the drain tray. Cleaning fixes it.
- Noise. A loose panel, a worn fan, or the outdoor unit's mounting.
- Flashing lights or a code. The unit's own fault code. Note it for the engineer.
Rinse the indoor filters every three months yourself. Anything to do with the refrigerant needs an F-gas certified engineer: see F-gas.

Questions we get asked
How much is an air con service in Ireland?
€80 to €210 a unit. Each extra indoor unit adds to it.
Why is my air con leaking water?
Usually a blocked condensate drain. It's a quick fix at a service.
Does air con need regassing every year?
No. A sealed system shouldn't lose gas. If it needs regassing, there's a leak to find and fix first.
Who can regas an air conditioner?
Only an engineer with an F-gas certificate, working for an F-gas certified company.
